• How does MAB's picking technique work? That crazy "pick perpendicular to the strings" thing? It looks like you have to move your whole arm for it.
• How do I get rid of scratchy/squeaky string noise with position shifts? I get it a lot on the lower strings, and it pisses me off because there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of it. It's a lot worse with rhythm.

i'd say give hers a go. it's similar to the way petrucci recommends practicing runs with a metronome in rock discipline, except he said to increase by 8 bpm every time, which is the one i use because i have an analog metronome that only works in increments of 8. moving along at 1bpm per session, no wonder that'd work. it's such a fine adjusment that you're hardly even noticing it.

Oh, it's not 1bpm per session, it's 1bpm per minute played flawlessly, haha. Although 1bpm per session would get me up to 400+ bpm in a year...

so really the key is not to notice the 1 bpm increment. By playing a lick at the same tempo for 10 mins maybe ?

Probably. But I want to learn a shitload of lead licks, so maybe I'll try 5 minutes at a tempo for 20 different licks, haha.

good question man. Now that I think about it I get almost 0 scratch, even if I want it. I thinking it has something to do with my dist unit. 1st my gain is not so high, 2nd i have a noise gate. Also try lifting your hands OFF the string when you shift, not just slide.
