Nobody even said Al DiMeola ... Shame on you all ... He is a true master of his art . these days kids don't know about Al.... he is one of the very best in my book but all the shred fans here... c'mon.... the stuff he did in the 70's... smokes every Gilbert and Yngwie solo by a long shot... from a technical stand point and melody vise.

john mclaughlin is a beast too. a friend of my has a flamenco guitar CD that he's on, and has a lot of the Mahavishnu Orchestra songs on his computer, and they're all pretty scary.

Derik Frigo: He wasnt just some guitar player in a glam band. He had many facets that made him in credible....... and a demon that took his life =(
He only gave me 1 official lesson when I was 13, but he was kind, yet honeslty critical.
We jammed a few times after that, and thats what made me really respect him. Taking the time to show me some cool shit when I sucked soooooo bad and made me practice.
Im proud to have spent time with him, even though the biz killed him.
I have not a bad word for him.

Derek was a pretty good songwriter... to bad what happened to him.
But who was JUST a guitar player in a glam band? 99% of 80's rock virtuoso guitarists were in hair bands

Chet Atkins!
Actually, I'm sure there isn't a 'best' player out there.

Anybody heard that flamenco player Armik? He has got a great technique and his music is full of feelings and that. For those that are into Spanish music and flamenco his music is a pure gift. He may not beat Yngwie in notes per minute but his music is... awshome.

I have a cooley lesson dvd and he's quick but he aint that quick, most of the stuff he plays is easy to play at speed, and his bends and vibrato make most people vomit... there are ways you can sound faster than you are.. just listen to me play
