Why are there so many girl fronted hard rock and metal(ish) bands know. Nightwish, Kittie, Flee the Seen, Bloodlined Calligraphy, Walls of Jericho, Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, Flyleaf, Within Temptation, After Forever, and of course Evanescence. I don't get why in the past couple of years this has happened. A lot of those girls scream. It scares me. But apparently all of you understand it. it's simple...they're better at it than we are. you know what they say... "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." go get a woman really pissed off and see who will be scarier

I had never heard Nightwish before today, just spent the morning/afternoon listening to everything I could find on YouTube, including the entire new album...
I honestly prefer Anette over Tarja. The operatic vocals were cool, but a bit much for me after a while. Opera is just pretentious when sung in English, in my opinion. There are definitely some personal favorites from Tarja, though.

Cause, I don't know that many of these kind of bands, but I have heard of them I believe. Yep. I don't know I dod think that Bloodlined Calligraphy is a pretty good girl fronted band, but the rest I don't get. All of their lyrics are too cheesy and full of word that men would never use, which might be okay for a girl, but I guess I'm just not in touch with my feminine side. For example I find Within Temptations songs (all i've heard is recent stuff, assuming they have older stuff) have real cheesy lyrics, and they seem repetitive.

Well, that's cool. I've never heard Within Temptations, so...no real opinion.
It would've been a crime to name Otep with Evanescence anyway. The only reason I mentioned her was because she's one of the most DOS vocalists on the planet, male or female.

Until there are more chick singers as guys, I don't think its all that unusual. I think its weird there aren't more, actually. As for the lyrics, can you cite an example? Cause in Nightwish the girl has no input.

After Forever is a great female fronted band. i love the opera style vocals. I dont like within temptation and chicks with that style of voice...they all seem like clones. Nightwish with tarja is great. and Angela gossow....and of course, the ottoman empire

oh and. I love how alot of the mainstream chick bands are heavily auto tuned....the chicks sound like aliens. its ridiculous
also, I prefer female harsh vocals...they sound way better to me. I dig that.

Dude....Autotune is probably the gayest thing ever. You will NEVER see me use it. Vocalists just need to concentrate on keeping pitch and producers need to get off the "what does this thingy do"? kick. Shit is way too overprocessed nowadays. Not meaning to sound like a dick, but this burns me.

I love lacuna for their arabikal / eastern feel to the songs, particularly on the Karmacode
