I think that scale that is often used on chinese guitars is a mode of a pentatonic scale.

Yes, the hungarian minor scale is one of my favorites. Sounds badass if you shred that shit.

If you keep it in a solidly defined key, but accent the 'weird' notes a lot, it gets this wicked, almost cartoonish, "off to Transylvania" sound. I use it quite a bit. Bunch of weird scales(second one has lots of Indian Ragas): jguitar.com/scalewww.geocities.com/scaleopia/There's some stuff in the IG lessons too.
