sounds great! the new sound makes me think of Alter Bridge except a little different (and i really like that band, so it's a huge compliment).
what amp did you do guitars with? was it the 5150?

Thx. We've gone pretty, dare I say it: "radio rock" Actually a dual rec. Treble 4 mid 0 bass 0, cranked volume, 0 prescence w/ tubescreamer. Miced w/ audix i5. It was mixed in 20 min per song and I just kinda threw the mic up there so it needs some work, but it is just a quick demo.

I've allowed myself a couple of weeks to take it all in before I said anything. Its hard to imagine DS in this light but surprisingly, I like it. It still has the edge and tone. The vocals Ill have to get used to (even though dude can obviously sing well). I have not gotten to see 'em live with Jordan yet. That will be the true test. Can he pull off Lewie's growls? You all (those of you that have been on this board for a few years) know that I'm not a fan of detuning. This sounds badass though. My retarded ass has a baritone tuned to E yet......yea yea, I need to try new things. I hope this works out for the better. It will make booking easier since more bands are in this genre.

I have been thinking about why people are detuning recently, and why I like D and especially C tuning. I gave my C tuned guitar to a technician for setup some days ago, and decided to transpose one song I wrote from C gypsy ( ) up two steps to be able to play it on my D guitar. Well the shizzle lost its colour, especially the intsrumental non-headbanging part, and it pretty much left me

We detune for vocal range as Jordan has a super low voice. I also like detuning because it shifts the frequency range down on the guitars and kills that bloody 4-6k fizz that I freaking hate so much on my dual recto.
Kevin: all the label feedback we got on what we needed to go national came down to 2 things: 1) get a new singer 2) either get a screamer and go heavier, or get a singer with the radio voice and be more commercial.
We decided that if we had to sell out (lol I love that term) and change what we are doing, we mind as well play what we are more interested in playing, and that was hard rock. The style change has been a very natural gravitation for us. I know it is different, but there are definitely going to be some classic DS moments on the new record. It seems about 98% of people have embraced the new sound that have followed us. The new record is almost done and the train moves forward. lol

Its cool, but i miss the thrash. My favorite parts were the insane rhythm guitar parts. I'm surprised you couldnt get label support for straight up thrash, considering how big its getting, with all the retro thrash bands coming out nowdays.
Oh, and as an interesting aside, i joined a band here in gainesville, Fl, and our practice spot has a Dark shift sticker on it lol

i was kinda taken back by the name change, along with the style change, but it's awesome hearing radio rock with real shredding

i know what you mean stef. the GOOD thing about it is that the status quo in commercial metal/hard rock is starting to swing back in a direction (thanks to bands like trivium, bullet for my valentine, and a7x getting so much exposure) that will make it a tad bit easier for better bands to get at least some kind of recognition. all 3 of those bands have me wanting to start a thrash metal band, only be better than them, especially since the whole "old-sk00l 'tallica" kind of sound is coming back...a thrash band could get good shows and get their name out more now

Thrash is badass. It just needs more... fuck. CHORDS GODDAMMIT. Another reason to love Dethklok: their songs are amazingly written. ;p
