Well it did happen but I was only picking in 16ths the other 4 notes were tapping ;D I was practicing Bofatronics \m/ It sounded like shit and I probably won't record it but sooner or later I'll record some tremolo for the tremolo contest.

It's 448 KB, and I could probably trim it down to 224, because only about five seconds is full speed. The rest is working up to it.

Actually, I'm probably going to re-record it now that my playing is back up to FUCKYES speeds. I can probably get thirty-seconds at AT LEAST 132, but we'll see. Either way, everyone else needs to step up and record some too.

1 thing i noticed while video taping myself once...... I always thought I alt picked like everyone else. Nope. I was doing some quazi circular picking that I NEVER practiced. I was like "WTF"?
Im not gonna complain, it works but to this day I still have no clue where i picked it up. It just seems like the picking motion is smoother to me.

Tungus:
I had a similar revelation. A few years back I use to practice alternate picking like mad. About two years ago I video taped myself playing and notice I use economy picking even though I never practiced it in a scalar format. The fuck? I think our bodies will end up taking the path of least resistance... especially when doing something like playing guitar. At a point you stop thinking and the subconscious takes over.

Totally agree.
Practicing gets boring because of the repetition involved. Sadly, this is what makes most people quit trying before any real progress is noticed. I feel bad for these ppl that quit trying. They miss the joy and feeling of REAL accomplishment when you hit the "OMFG, I GOT IT" moment.
Seriously.. no one is going to be able to play anything Paul Gilbert does in 1 week (maybe a year if devoted enough) and it discourages new players. Its not an easy "overnight" instrument to learn.
I'm just going to chalk it up as 1 more thing that happily confuses us..... and discover more cool shit about our chunks of wood w/ a volume knob that goes to 11 ;D

I am trying to treat guitar as a journey now. "I am here -- I was there -- I will eventually be over there where Dave Mustaine sits on his titanium-aluminum alloy throne as the god ov thrash and speaking one's mind."
Ahem.

"I am here -- I was there -- I will eventually be over there where Dave Mustaine sits on his titanium-aluminum alloy throne as the god ov thrash and speaking one's mind." Ahem. Same boat. Pretty much where I sit now. I went back through my "Doug Marks" books and tapes from the 80s the other day and found something a bit disturbing. He says...."burn your bridges" under the premise that moving forward is the only way to get better. I followed this theory for years. Cant say it didnt work other than I forgot alot of tunes and had to go back and relearn them later when I missed them. In his new video courses... he says "1/3 of your practice time should be going over your previous lessons" hmmmm. Wanna make your fucking mind up Doug?

Don't be too hard on him Tungus As a professional teacher myself it's not unusual to reevaluate your teaching methods over the years. Just like our perspective on guitar playing will change as WE change and develop as musicians, so must it happen with teaching.

You do have a valid point there Dan. I guess I was venting haha. I'm not what you call a ppl person, so I cant really consider myself a teacher. I have given lessons to folks but never charged for them.... pretty much jams that turned out to be lick trading...then much drinking I never got serious about teaching professionally due to my lack of patience. I know I wouldn't pay me to teach me lmao.

We should do a cross string alt picking contest at face melt speeds. I can tremolo pick the paul gilbert lick now and a couple of 3 and 4 string runs (not always cleanly), and that shit is harder + more interesting than just buzzing one note.
