Who uses alternate tunings (drop D/C... doesn't count), and what are they?
I recently got a tip about DADGAD, but haven't really played with it yet.

Devin Townsend uses CGCGCE on a six and GCGCGCE on his 27" seven. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

A local band, Vengefull uses open B minor (tuned down to B, but 4th and 5th string are tuned a step higher so when you play all open strings it's B minor)
Mathieu Marcotte,s (from Augury) project Humanoid, constists of all open/weird tunnings, I can ask him what they are.

Damn, open B minor sounds pretty cool. I'm going to have to try that.

I have to restring and do some work on the Kahler on the Tracer today.....think ill go with a hybrid 10-56 set and try the Bm tuning.
The short scale (24.5) may sound TOO King's Xy but Im gonna try it anyways. Ill let ya know how it turns out.

I'm tempted to go with straight fourths sometimes. Fuck major thirds.

The reason Im even considering it.... the alternate fingerings that are going to be needed to run scales will make a good finger workout. Ive been slacking in my practicing so any change that requires extra thought will help.

That low B is going to be a bit muddy, don't you think?

I'm tempted to go with straight fourths sometimes. Fuck major thirds. I read an interesting article about that when I first started playing, I think at wholenote.com. Something about a guy who retuned to fourths straight across and went back because he lost his creativity without that third.

I recently started using 6-course lute tuning, down a 1 1/2 steps:
E A D F# B e
Basically just moving the normal 3rd interval change down a string.
I want to get an 8 string more than ever now, because then I can use standard lute tuning, and still have the low notes.
That tiny change is great for me, because it stops me from going on "auto-pilot". I have to think about things more before I play them, especially scale shapes and arpeggios.

DADGAD is fun on acoustic (especially when you do the double capo stuff). other than that, I've never really messed with anything.

I think it's Bm7 tuning or something, idk
