Two days after doing brutal trills and stuff on acoustic, and the morning of "noodling around with string-skipping stuff without a metronome," I am suddenly able to hack my way through scales, 16ths at 170-180 instead of 160, almost perfectly cleanly. I will probably have to reinforce this with constant practice and pushing to make sure it stays and gets even cleaner, but this is a flex-worthy moment.
…
I win at guitar. *flex*
And I'm pretty sure the secret was a lot of practice with headphones. It helps you to listen to the amp sound rather than the string sound, so you can tell when you're clean and not.

Dos man, DOS \m/ yeah, you gotta listen to the amp instead of strings, thats a big mistake most people do... headphones seem to help, but it sounds annoying to me (thru my RP7, was a massive digital moskito attack) BTW man (still dunno your name) you should modify your name to "SHREDDER IN PROGRESS" or something

Oh, and the other thing was that I was practicing for a while without a metronome with clean tone motherfuckers, doing crazy-ass string-skipping layovers. The more complicated the stuff you practice slow, the faster and cleaner your simple stuff gets, or something. And no, I'm never going to consider myself a shredder. The word sounds like "soulless wanker" to me, rather than "technical virtuoso with balls and feeling." And my name's Eric.

There's a very slight tingling feeling in my left hand's fingers. I probably overdid it today. Going to have to let this heal again. Balls.

Seen it. It's badass, and I'm tempted to try it. But if I were to do that, I'd just switch to actual piano, because guitar on clean tone sounds like ass compared to good synth.

you can learn to do it with distortion, just dampen the strings up around the nut to cut out any strings that ring out. and, yes, synth does sound better than clean guitar, but guitar is FTW over keyboard because, well, it's guitar \m/

and yes, that dude kills. i actually think his rendition of the pink panther theme is my favorite of his, and the part on that one you posted when he pulls out the slide and uses it just above the pickups

Its a killer technique! I am learning to do something like this now. And u'know you can connect your guitar to a synth and play the synth sound with a guitar

OOOOO lord. I remember in the 80s when syth came out for guitar. What a mess. It was cool but as soon as ya bent a note, the snyth would crap out. Its come a long way since then.
About this listening to the string vs amp thing...... Beginners should allways play acousticaly. This helps hand timing/sync. Anything beyond intermediate skill level should be amplified but not with a totaly wet signal. Learning to play loud (and yes it is learned) is important. You can ace scales in your bedroom but get on stage and sound sloppy as hell.
