I just found this and thought it was interesting. The way things are explained really fits my learning style. I need really meticulous detail. www.tuckandpatti.com/pick-finger_tech.htmlIf you have the patients, let me know what you guys think.

I read it all some time ago and it's pretty much exacly the guidence I would have liked to have when I was still soft clay.
It's good but don't belive everything he sais, he can't tell you what's best for you atlhough he can tell you what's not good for the body (aka. elbow picking). Adjust the picking to what you feel is comfortable.

Incidently matt, is the type of picking you described with the thumb joint what people refer to as "circular picking?" yeah basically circle picking with a matt vibe to it I didnt want to call it circle picking because you may have looked it up on the net and got some contrasting information.. I wanted you to try it the way I described it first as I thought this would be the clincher for your problem. also, with your right hand resting too hard on the strings problem... check out one of the archive lessons on effective palm muting... get this technique down and comfortable as you may find you need to use pinkys etc as anchor points on the guitar, which will affect the position of your picking hand. Ive had a few ppl from here ask me about circular picking....Loyct is the 1 that stuck out in my mind the most. I made the comment on the old board about how I pick and got a few pms over it. I just noticed 1 day while noodling that I was circular picking and not even thinking about it. I practiced it about a year before that, but gave up because it didnt seem to be doing anything to improve my speed. Yet 1 day.... BAM.... there it is. Its hard to explain to someone how to do it. Everyone does it differently. I rest my pinky under the pickup ring most times, but others my hand floats. Practice is what makes the skill appear. Theres things in my playing that Im sure I NEVER practiced, yet somehow I pull it off. Very strange and hard to put into words.

Yup, that was me trying to make Firefox my bitch and failed. I can log in with IE so this is where Ill stay on IG.
I saw a vid today which basially summed up what my slow ass was trying to explain. It was on 1 of the guitar mag sites (which 1 I duno)... was Nuno talking about how he started playing. I think the thing that got me really thinking about it is..... he said "1 day it just clicks" Soooooo true.
