Alright, well as you guys know, i pretty much play only 7 strings. Now, i was thinking about being like George Lynch and tuning a 7 with a High A (Alex Gregory said he thought of it, but he's a lying theiving bastard who cant play as good as his album cover implies). Now, no one here sells strings small enough for that. (You'd need a 7 guage string, most places barely carry 8's). So i went up to the local mesa dealer and purchased a pack of 8-38 and a low 46 for my lowest string. Got back home, tuned up my Ibanez S-7320 with the set in D-G-C-F-A-D-G.
Sweet Jesus, it sounds aweome. the chord possibilites are far more expanded than with a Low B. You can play a D Chord and get the note on your high E/10th fret right at your 5th fret with the stretch of a pinky. sounds really awesome. Open "A" chords with a high A note (G of course, we're tuned down, remember?). Plus, doing arpeggios, you get way more options. Its just a great tuning. the only downside is getting used to playing with a string above your high E, but god damn, its worth messing with just to experience. i'm definately gonna leave my guitar in this tuning from now on. i might get a smaller string eventually and tune EADGBEA. That'd RULE.

Sounds good theoricly, for chords and solos, but i doubt a lil 8' would last me more than 20 minutes ;p
some while ago I wanted to tune one of my axe to A-D-G F-A-D (like a 7' but no middle string) but never did it :/

It probably was the adjustment. a friend of mine came over the day i bought it and almost shredded the strings off of it, and he fell in love with it. he has a UV777, a JEM, a Rick Turner Baritone Acoustic-electric, and a Tobias classical, so his opinion really is one of the only ones that matter.

Yep, the S7320's are awesome. So are Universes. I've got both ;D I tried to post a pic in the guitars thread, but for some reason i cant yet (dont have enough posts?)
But yeah, the 8 works great for that tuning, and i usually play 9 to whatever depending on the guitar.. my conklin GTG7T has a .065 bass string on the low Bb. The UV has a .056, because thats what it came with, but when i buy strings next, it'll probably get a .064 or something. my old RG i tuned with a .068 for A standard.
