I have heard that it is risky to use el34's in a xxx, despite the supposed ease. I have also heard that kt77's are the ultimate el34 but can be used straight on 6l6 sockets. I have the standard sovteks on my xxx now. What is the best way to drop in thes kt77's.
Also, will the kt77's lose any bite, I know that warmth and cleaness will be improved but gain could be lost.
Also, I sorta like the 6l6 sound, so are there any that have a decent clean sound, but will track better, and will be less fuzzy but still very crushing, because sovtek's aren't the greatest I know. I am more of a metalcore and death metal sort of guy, so I need the gain, but I like to solo too, so I thought maybe the kt77's would do the trick, but now I am afraid to lose my seething distortion. So maybe some kt66's or 6l6gc's or kt88's or something would be best.
So basically for my situation what would you recommend. I need lots of gain, but a decent clean, not dry and lifeless, and good tracking and not fizzy. I know a fair amount about tubes, but I haven't tried out that many in person. Please Help! I need some tone!

I wanted KT88's for my XXX but the fucking bottles are too big 6l6's man, 6l6's. I wasnt all that impressed with the amp until I dropped in 6l6s from JJ.

Now that I think about it eurotubes makes a package for the XXX that is specifically made for faster playing styles... I think its the high gain option.

Since when? Its plug and play on the Triple XXX. I ordered my tubes, yanked the old ones out, put the new ones in and was good to go in about 10 minutes.

Oh, well they have another one where u ship it to them and they redo a lot of stuff. I'll look into it, but I want it sounding as good as possible, so I need to know whether to bias it with the things on the amp, or set it up for el34 or what.

the el34 is where they state you will have to swap out certain parts because the tube burns out the cheaper ones they put in the amp. You can find the information on their website about what needs to be changed. Find a local amp tech in your area to change it out. 6l6's are good just to throw in... no upgrading necessary.

I ordered the kt77 high gain xxx package. I've got a guy that will put it in for $30, once it gets hear. I'm really excited. But I'll have to leave for a trip either before or right after I get them
