I've been using DR 11-50s for tuning to E for a while now. All well and good, but I've found that I really can't play fast thrashy stuff in E nearly as well as I can in Eb, even. However, I like the thickness I get out of 11s. My hands tire extremely easily some days, much slower on others.
I attribute my problems with playing on thick strings tuned to E to my weak, girly hands. Should I just play everything in Eb, or should I go back down to 10s?

Dude chill out ;D 11th tuned to E! I have 1 guitar with 11 tuned to D, and that is more than enough tension. I even tuned 10s down to drop C. So yeah man, tune it down. Try tuning 11s to C and see if you like it.

I AM THE DARK GOD OF THRASH
I should add, though, that I'm using a 24.75-scale guitar.

I'd say there's alot of tension going. IF you love that tone you're getting, it's just a matter of practice. however, in Eb, that'd be a lil loose therefore making things easier. I use 12-56 in D so I should know I played this old school charvel the other day.... 12-60 in E... OUCH MY FINGERS, but it sounded BAD ARSE.

I'm tempted to use 12s in D, myself. 11s in D feel a bit too loose for me, but 11s in Eb are pretty good, as are 10s in E.

Yeah, I've gone back to 10s in E. Works pretty well. Also, I saw TSO live in concert a few nights ago, and was reminded that E-tuned guitars still sound fucking heavy. Particularly when there's three of them. \m/ *flex*

Yeah I agree on shredding them faster but they tend to break really faster due to my bendage and whammybarrage abuse.. And I hate changing strings. So 10s in D and drop C are my best friends ;D

when i get my next guitar, it's going to be in C standard with either 12s or 13s (probably have to get a 7 string set and drop the highest). Then, if i drop tune it, it'll be in Bb \m/
