So ive been looking for new pickups to add to my guitar (an Ibanez RGT42). The stock ones were pretty weak and so far i have an Dimazio X2N for the bridge, but im still on the look for a Neck pickup. I was thinking of throwing in a Evolution for the Neck, but im not sure how it would react with the mahogany body. Besides Dimarzios, what other type of neck pickup would you guys recommend? Im looking for primarily something that would work well with hi-gain leads and sound clear, yet at the same time sound decent on a clean setting as well. Thanks.

Im actually looking for a winder =) IMO... you can NEVER go wrong with a JB. Tried and true but pricey =( Im prolly gonna get flamed for this......but if you can find 1 (as far as I know Kramer doesnt sell these individually), a dual rail from Kramer is pretty meaty and cheap. You can sometimes find preassembled pickguards on musicyo for 30 bux. I got 1 just to play around with and they actually sound badass for the price. They even send you 2 guards. I guess they made 2 diff shapes back in the day. Personally, I dont care for the new Kramers but I do like the quad and dualrails.

Style of Music, umm anything leaning towards metal i suppose, I play a lot of shred (Racer X, Cacophony, Nevermore, Yngwie, etc.), as well as some heavier stuff like Death, Necrophagist, Cynic, etc.
Im just running it though a Peavey Ultra head, although im planning to thow a tube screamer in front of it.
Regarding the JB, i always thought those were mainly used for the bridge? oh, and what about Bareknuckle pickups? Ive heard a lot of good things about them, by chance have any of you played one?

If you want to do the dimarzio thing, Air Norton neck works well. Bareknuckles... talk to EM, I convinced him to put a Bareknuckle Warpig/Nailbomb set in his Jackson and he loves 'em. They're pretty much the best pickups I've ever heard, but they'll cost ya Try a Nailbomb in the neck position.

BARE FUCKING KNUCKLES \m/
email tim @ BKP, he'll suggest you the right one.
I'd say nailbomb but it might be "too much" for ye and for your X2N ;p
