What do you guys think of this shit? I have to say a lot of it grabs me, particularly Dark Tranquillity and the last Dissection album. The embarrassing part is that the guitar parts are often enough pretty challenging for me. Also, I'm nicotine high and it's 1:30 AM, so give me a break on this stupid-ass post.

I own Wages of Sin. Amott is the truly DOS. I shall certainly check out Spawn of Possession, though, if you say so.

My favorite melo-deathish bands are Extol and Immortal Souls, and children of bodom if you count them as melodeath, but I sometimes don't especially on particular albums.

I've never known what to call CoB. They're power metal with screaming and fewer bagpipes.

i don't really care...as long as it's heavy, fast, and has lots of blast beats and sweep picking, i like it

CoB is a technical melodic metal with harsh vocals just Bodom, its short Apart from them on the melodic scene I dig Wintersun and Arch Enemy \m/ Amott \m/ Some moments of Suicmez's solos are cool too. Spawn of Posession \m/

Kalmah, Ensiferum, Wintersun, Norther, Arch Enemy (Everyone already mentioned Wages of Sin), OLD In Flames, Carcass, At the Gates, Crematory, Insomnium.
It really caught my attention when I first heard it, 'cause it was brutal, but epic and beautiful at the same time. It was like "wait...growling with pummeling riffs and Maiden/Preist harmonies? F*CK YEAH!!

Well, melodic death is getting real wide nowadays. We have the old school ones, the gothenburg ones, the leaning to metalcore ones, the pop-ish ones, them more power metal ones.
But for me i guess Melo death is my fave death genre, i can't appreciate brutal or tech death.
For Old In Flames style, check out Insomnium, as endless mentioned. They're really really good. For those into CoB, try Skyfire.
I don't really regard Ensiferum as melo death. Same with Norther. Ensiferum is more of folk/viking metal, nothing really death about them. Norther is just aggressive melodic power metal with harsh vocals. Of course, both bands have their death influences, but not so much for them to be labeled melo death.

Dark Tranquillity and Amon Amarth pretty much own every other melodeath band.

Actually depends IMO Ensiferum > Amonamarth for viking /norse type melodic deathmetal. My favourite are Wintersun and CoB, although bodom sucks live and their new stuff is liek... ehh... not cool
