This past weekend a guy said to me (I hear this sort of thing all the time), "I'd love to do what you're doing, but I need the job security.".
Dude, you have ONE boss. ALL your eggs are in ONE basket. You get fired, you are fucked.
Me? I have diverse revenue streams...but assuming all I did was teach guitar (this is what he was referring to) and I have 40 or 60 or 80 students - well, then I have 40 or 60 or 80 bosses. If one fires me, I get another to replace them. Plus, I teach for 6-7 hours total, not 8-10, so I don't clock 40+ hours (leaving me more time for other aspects of my career, as well as time with family & friends).
The notion that a traditional 9-5 is in ANY way secure is an illusion of EPIC proportions.
On another note, I am sooooo amped: We just polished off the major stuff in the new studio. I still have to do some trim qwork and pretty it up, then connect all the gear. In 2 weeks we are open for biz!!!!

Thats great Dave! I recently just expanded beyond teaching by purchasing my own shop. I should have it open and ready to go by October (SO FAR AWAY!!! ) Drop me a line when you are in my area again. I still owe ye that beer.
