Hey I know I am rackin up the threads, but I already like this site, and am gonna completely take advantage of its usefulness. So, right now I am using the sm57 mic I talked about earlier for screaming, obviously those are not the best vocal mics, more like the workhorse mics. I wanna know what types of mics are best for screaming into (condenser, dynamic, etc.) and what are some reasonably affordable favorites of you guys. I still only have a small mixer and cheap pre-amp, and a line6 toneport. So what do you guys think I should get. I need a mic that isn't real sensitive, not like a mounted recording mic, and I don't want it trippin out on me when it is really used. Keep it under like $150ish. Also you should still answer my tube question.

you guys, should answer this or i am just gonna get a shure sm58 or even beta or whatever and go with it. The guys i've seen live use crappy akg's but I think a lot of those sound very muddy, but that was on regular singing, I have no clue what they do to a scream. Help me out.

SM58 or SM58 beta will handle all your death vocal needs.

yeah, some people sing with the 57's but I don't like them, even on my higher screams, it is just very unsaturated and filters out too much.

Hey, I just got my drums miced today with more 57's and some sterling st31's for overheads. I doubt they would be, being for acoustic mikin and cymbals, but those wouldn't do any better for screaming than a 57 would they?

57 is an awesome mic for screaming. Why don't you use your ears and try them all out and find what works?

I don't have them all. and nobody else will let you try out a mic, especially so you can scream at the top of your lungs in a store.

dude... I listened some clips for curiosity... the drumsound on the Ian Abrahamson track is by far the best you have done... the snare and the kick has a lot more depth than the rest of the bands... what did you do differently? more mics... less samples? good job anyway... the whole mix rocks!

yes, very nice drums on that. The sterling sucks for screaming now that I tried it. I guess I'll just stick with the 57, cause I don't value vocal equipment half as much as guitar stuff. It does sound a good bit better on high stuff, but when I go low it sort of gets very filter like, witch sounds cool sometimes if I am doing chaos stuff, but anything else sort of seems out of place. The next thing on my wishlist is a decent firewire though, and a mic may come later at some point.
