I have figured out that I will most likely be getting an AKD DAW setup. My problem is how to get audio in/out of the DAW. I want to get seperate preamps and converters, but I don't know what to look for in good converters, and many seem to have built in pre's.
I want to be able to do 'live off the floor' recordings of a full band, or at least be able to track large drum kits.
$1000 is probably the upper limit of my budget for now.

I'm confused on what equipment you already own. Cause unless you already have a lot of the stuff you'll need, $1,000 pretty much won't cut it for recording a whole band at once at all.

I'm talking just the converters/input-output scheme I decide. Everything else I have figured out/already have.
If there's a better way to do this, that'd be cool too. Its just the easiest way to decent quality recordings I've found. The grey area for me is the best way to get audio in and out of the box.
I should mention that this setup won't have to be too diverse, and is mostly for my personal use at the moment. The live off the floor stuff is not extremely important(just would be nice), but large kit recording is.

Well do u want to simultaneously track, or just have direct in and outs, or some mixing? Cause you can get a Firewire setup with some converters, decent pre's and simultaneous tracking for well under 1,000.

I'm not sure I fully understand.
I need to record multiple tracks at once, and be able to use seperate pre's. These are the most important aspects. I was thinking I should get dedicated converters, unless there is a better way. I know pretty much nothing about converters though, so I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what I need.
EDIT: I have just found the MOTU 896HD it appears to be what I'm looking for, if I can use my own pre's.

yeah, running pre's through pre's is fine. I'm getting a presonus firestudio. You can do like four simultaneous tracks, maybe more I can't remember. It has decent converters and pre's, and I think eight inputs. There is also a bigger one that has more inputs and simultaneous track ability's. The number of tracks really depends on what you're setup can handle. The MOTU thing is a similar deal, but I don't know much about them.
