This is a clip of my xxx done in about ten minutes without any effects, but some eq. But how would you improve this tone in general, (I realize I had the gain up a little high). Just click on download beside xxx blah blah (it just plays it not like download and save, for those not familiar with site). music.mp3lizard.com/loganisonfire/you can also check out my really old vai cover that a friend talked me into. I use this site for sharing clips and stuff that I need to show on forums, and somebody wanted to hear me shred, but I much prefer to shred less, and play drums better now. I really sucked at drums back then.

Well, as you have noticed the gain was too high. I personally try to avoid having that fuzz behind the tone if you understand me. I would lower the gain a lot, and maybe slap some more mids on it

Sounds fine eq wise. Lower your gain if you record anything with it.

yep, I think except for the gain, I did alright, but how would you get it to sound less distant and more up in your face sounding, without turning up the volume a lot? The guys at harmony central all tell me to dual mic. But I have lost favor with a lot of them.

dual mics can be good, but you can have problems with phases.. is your mic really close to the speaker?? did you overdub (2 or 4 or 8 tracks) and panned 'em properly ?
Btw for a XXX it sounds good \m/

thank you, and I usually put it a little under two inches from the speaker, and I didn't really need to overdub, but I cut the parts and panned it right in the middle, which I think is all you need for a clip.

well, sound would be much tighter, and you can use less overdrive. but yeah, for just a basic clip, to get an idea of a song or riff or whatnot, its more than acceptable

yeah see that guys at harmony-central though it was complete crap. and all they had were clips of van halen and Ratt covers they did, with even more distant sounding tone than mine, and very modeller like quality. It's like clips without drums all sound bad to them.

Ignore them arrogant woolheads my friend. I think you did a nice job. Repost this one when or if you record it with less gain, I think it would be very nice.

A really good way of getting your guitars to sound more in your face is to turn up your amp volume and get some serious speaker compression going. I especially like this on cabs w/ celestian vintage 30s.
I find a nice 2 bus compressor can add some of that in your face quality as well if done right.

compression i shall try, but I already have the volume over 3/4 of the way.

You could also try to dry up your room that you record in. Thoes unwanted near reflections can be a pain in the ass.
Your amp is definately loud enough.

yeah, I am moving into a big concrete block building for a home studio soon, and I am gonna cover it with studio foam as well as set up redneck style portable sound catchers by whatever I am recording until I can get a ceiling put in. I am also making a monitoring/ recording booth in there too, it should make it easier with the space, and the sound should be at least decent.
