Since yesterday was it.... anyone have any good stories?
I'll start:
I've never been a superstitious person. I don't believe in luck. However, if I've ever had a day in my life that I would deem fit the stereotype of Friday the 13th, yesterday was it! Silvergun had its 1st gig as "silvergun" instead of Dark Shift. New band, new sound, etc, so we are pretty excited to test the waters and see how people will take to us live. I finished recording at about 1 pm and I went w/ Jordan to pick up the bus. We get there... battery is dead. Can't turn it over. I'm like ok, whatever, I have a battery charger pack that I charged not to long ago. I go to jump the bus.... battery pack is dead. ****! So luckily JP and Freddy were there and JP happened to have an extension cord that we could plug the charger into and refresh it. So we plug it into a nearby house and then decide to go pick up our new silvergun shirts while it recharges. We get back to the bus like 1 hour and 30 min later. I grab the charger and go to jump the bus. The charger didn't have enough time to charge and we couldn't do it. So now we are running an hour late and I can't get the bus started. We go dig up some jumper cables and jump her with my car. I go to pull out the buss, but it is stuck in a rut (it is parked on grass) from all the rain we've been getting. So I am trying to rock her back and forth to get it over the hump.... and like a moron I don't give it enough gas while I shift into gear and kill it. So I pull my car back up and jump her again, just after we had put everything back away........ After a few minutes of rocking it back and forth and tearing the piss out to the lawn I got it out. Little did I know that the tie down broke that held the generator in back of the bus and it tipped over and spilled gas all over the cargo area. It was really fun to clean up. After that I drove it to the drummer's place to pick up the gear. I was going to stop to get gas, but since I had no battery and no way to jump it, I decided to drive 20 minutes to the drummers and then get gas. Besides, we should have plenty according to the gauge right? Well we go in and jam 3 songs to warm up. We leave the bus on idle. I am outside strapping down amps in the back and suddenly, she runs out of gas. ****! Now I am pissed. So we send the wives to go get some gas. They go through an insane ordeal getting a "diesel" gas can because apparently you can't put diesel in a "red" gas can. Wtf is that all about?! So it takes them 1 hour to get 5 gallons of diesel.... we are now running really late!!!! We get the diesel can and fill her up. We go to start the bus.... NOTHING!!!!!!!! Now panic is setting in. We cal some mechanic friends.... air in the gas lines. So after 30 minutes of screwing around and trying to "rolling start it" Lewie gets it stuck in the middle of the damn road. So now we are running around like maniacs trying to find the fuel filter so we can fill it up with diesel like the mechanic said. Well... we can't get the damn thing off and we have no tools with us. Then we get a hold of another mechanic and he tells about the "bleeder valve." Worked like a charm. Boom she is running and we are no 2 1/2 hours late for our gig which is a 1:30 drive from our location. We get to the gig with about an hour before we go on. We start setting up and Lewie's power amp tubes blow out in sound check....... We borrow a line 6 head from some other band and then everything went great.
What a crazy day!
