I need an entirely new setup. I hate my Spider II 1x10, hate my shitty old LTD that's had the buzz beaten into it. I can probably count on making $1200 this summer that I can spend on gear. I need a decent, upgradeable setup -- preferably 24 frets and a fairly thin neck on the guitar (I like n3r3m4c's SLSMG Soloist neck, but can't spend five-sixths of my budget on that model). I want an amp that will have enough volume for jamming and decent high-gain tone (although I could find a pedal or something, I guess) -- been thinking of getting that $500 Randall half-stack, and upgrading head and cab piecemeal as I get more money.
What can I look at getting new with this budget? I've been burned by eBay (the Hellraiser I bought turned out a month later to have a warped neck, etc), and would rather get new shit.

I can tell you from experience that the cheaper solid state Randalls kick ass. I bought the Randall RH200-G2 maybe 4 or 5 years ago. It was about $700 (head and cab) I have been gigging with it every weekend for about 2 years now and Ive never once had a problem with it other than wear and tear from gigging. The solid state Randalls sound really good. The best solid state tone ive come across in my opinion (for metal). I used it to record with my band as well, so if you are interested in listening I can give you a link to our myspace

lolz, thanks, guys. I was actually considering a Bandit 112 myself -- played a used one a few days ago, and it actually sounded really damn good for what it was. I was going to ask this over on ROG, Stef, but realized that they'd just say "OMG AMPEG" or "OMG SAEV UP AND BUY MESA BOOGERS U CUNT." And yeah, a link to the Myspace would be cool, thanks.

Anemic World v2 is fucking awesome, dude, and you definitely have some good tones out of that shit. I love the hard-left-and-right panned guitars -- sounds very crisp and distinct.

Thanks...the other guitarist uses a Rocktron to get his tones as well as a bunch of other rack gear. But we were able to get the tones to match well. And Im totally into recording the old school way....each guitarist plays his own parts and has his own tone, then pan em left n right But anyway, the Randall is pretty awesome. You can get some great metal tones and it puts out enough sound to play gigs

I am seriously considering an Agile Interceptor Pro, because I've been hearing great things about them lately. Pics to follow, if I do get it.

And yeah, a link to the Myspace would be cool, thanks. i can speak from experience on this one...go for a Bugera 6262. YES, I KNOW...THEY'RE DISTRIBUTED/OWNED/WHATEVER BY BEHRINGER. However, I put some new Svletana tube in today...sounds EXACTLY like a blockletter 5150. It's a very good amp (especially for $549 lolz) and even has a better clean channel than the actual 5150. Mine just came in today, swapped the gehy factory tubes out for new ones, and it slays. Now i'm waiting for my sonic maximizer to come in so I can have tight br00t4l palm mutes ov doom! between that head and an Avatar 4x12 (which are dos...hand made with 2 V-30s and 2 t-75s for $419 or so) you're looking at a very nice all tube, 120W half stack for around $900. Then you can use the rest of that money to get your rack stuff (like, you know, a BBE Sonic Maximizer \m/ ). ^^^that's my rig, btw, minus the sonic maximizer i just ordered off of egay.
