Anyone heard it yet?
My buddy brought it over on memory stick. I haven't had time to listen to more than a few minutes of it.
Thoughts?

I only heard the last track and Cyanide. My Apocalypse was okay. Cyanide was eh. I'm listening to Altitudes right now, which is by the opposite of Metallica: Jason Becker.

I havent listened to it at all yet, and judging by the names of the tracks I dont feel I want to. I feel though that people should settle on that metallica has had its peak in music a long time ago and such peaks will never be repeated. JMO

There was a premier on the radio sometime last week, Friday I think it was. They played the whole disc but I only caught the last 4 songs on the drive home from work.
I surprisingly liked it. I probably wont buy the disc though. Is it me or did they get seriously repetitious on this 1.....(bridge, chorus, bridge, break, bridge, chorus and so on). Its kinda like they were desperate to write 12 min songs in 2 hours. *shrug*

Sall rite, but TBH, people should just forget about that and go on to a new band.
Slayer, 'tallica, Megadeth, Maiden, Manowar, Motley crue, will NEVER ever be half-as-good as during the 80's or early 90,s

I am not fond of the production on the album at all. My verdict is yet to be decided on the music. Haven't had time to listen to it more than once. I think the production is a serious downgrade for them. Hell, I liked St. Anger's production better.

I agree about the production, but the songs themselves aren't too bad.

The production is slammed with limiting and compression. Rick Rubin is not an engineer that will polish you up, you get what you sound like from him. Nothing pretty, this is what metallica sounds like if you sit in their practice space. They were going for a lively-live sounding/raw album. Mission accomplished. The Musicianship on the other hand is pretty solid. James sings better than ever on this album. He is a little more aggressive/ and melodic at the same time. Vocals sound more varied on this release. Rythym guitars are nicely played, albeit somewhat repetative in spots. The bass is nicely played, not prominent but it's metal... it shouldn't be too upfront. The drums are a little weak, Lars is by far the laziest member of the band, as well as Kirk. He has a few shining moments on the solos but not many. Mostly noisy wanking. Back to the drums, they sound real lively but the playing was pretty standard again with only a few shining moments. Het and Rob are the strongest assets to metallica, Lars has gotten lazy and weak as well as Kirk. But over all the songs are pretty solid. The lyrics to Unforgiven III may be James most poetic yet...i like them alot. They have meaning, as well as That was Just Your Life. I give the album an 8 production, and drumming/solo's aside.

I look at it this way ... St. Anger was ok (the snare sound was for shit and not 1 guitar solo) I thought Kirk Hammett was a guitar GOD ( was'nt he) ? The "Black" album ... Too commercial . At that point they could have recorded fingernails on a chalkboard and sold millions . Bob Rock had too much influence on the band (just my opinion). I don't wanna start a fight . I won't even talk about Load and Reload (they speak for themselves) And Justice for all . Heavy as fuck . But Really BAD production (No BASS sound at all ) Cliff Burton put a curse on them for that one . Ride the lightning and Master of puppets (True Metallica that we all know and love). Face it guyz Metallica will never go back to where they came from . They are just NOT hungry anymore ... They all bought big houses and drink expensive beer (exept for James ). As far as Death Magnetic goes It is what it is . They are trying to stay heavy and still keep it radio friendly . It seems to be a safe bet for them . Ya know Keep the money train movin along . I look at it like this at least they got a really KILLER bass player (Rob is AMAZING) Best of all he plays without a pick . Please don't beat me up too bad . It's just one man's opinion...
