Nino?.....mmmmmmmK Sup? I got some more pics the other day after we had hashed out a couple of smaller details. we had talked a little more about the heal and come up with a good starting point and he is gonna do a couple of mockups and a few more computer renderings for me when we get that far as he still has a few small things to do first... Speaking of mockups,,I noticed i never did post a pic of the mockup he sent me like a week after this thing got under way,, After we hashed out some general details,,( width/ thickness measurements, radius, gen. backshape, scallops,,etc) and he got some BS wood and carved up a rough mockup and shipped it out to me so that i could put in my hands and get a feel for and we could start making changes from there( i just threw the tuners on to get a look and the scallops are at .060 on the mockup,, on the real one we went either .028 or .032 IIRC,,cause we didn't want to take the chance of blowing through the inlay material ).... You just don't get this kind of service ANYWHERE else!!!! period,,,The man is top shelf all the way
anyway,, we have been going over the current heel shape which was based generally off a 22 fret gibson V,, but with a deep extended tenon setting,, this current heel shape gets too fat too soon for my personal taste, (but this is a good design as with building most anything,,,you can take away but you cant put it back ) Due to the deep cutaway and twist that I want to do,,we decided to go full on neck thru to alleviate the potential of a weak pocket with the deep set build method. and also allows us to use a fatter neck tenon through the body, as the builder and I both actually share allot of philosophies and views on build techniques, one of the deeper ones is the fact that when most builders do a neck thru, the tenon is the same width as the fretboard at, lets say, the 24th fret,,that means when they drill the holes for the floyd,, its pretty much in the glue joint between the neck and body wings, THAT .. just seems so wrong on so many levels,, due to the fulcrum transferring the vibrations of the strings down the screws into a fault line instead of pure wood. Secondly,,,,in a neck thru, the second you rout the spring cavity and the sustain block hole you are no longer really neck thru anymore,,,You pretty much just cut right through the neck tenon and that has to bee some sort of vibrational roadblock or detour right there... Metaphysical mumbo jumbo to most I'm sure but things like this have always kinda bugged me,, and apparently I'm not alone. anyway,,,Early on i roughly told him kinda what i wanted for the heel he later sent me these renderings...and, Yes the Jack plate is backward ,,as i want my cable to run down into my strap as opposed to making that big loop that has always left me with shorted cables. that is given that my strap button is placed where we think it will go, but due to the heel routing, the neck button will most likely have to be moved back to accommodate the sculpting, as a result it might tend to be neck heavy and dive and,, as i prefer a certain angle for my guitar to hang, I hipped him to how over the years I have come to find that angle without drilling a bunch of holes in guitars that don't sit right, cause I'm sure we are gonna have to play with the button placement. which translate into about 3/8 cut out like this(blue) But,, I want it roughly more along the lines of this (blue+ orange) hes gonna get some variations of this mocked up for me to scope out and we'll go from there.

Damn that is awesome! One thing that has eluded me so far though is how come the highest frets are longer than those leading up to them?
