Me being a drummer myself..... jazz/syncopation style is the most difficult style to master. True jazz drummers are not normally seen by the average person as talented. This is a shame. While Lars got a lot of attention and credit for being a pioneer of melodic drumming in metal....the true credit should go to Niel Peart to be labeled pioneer. Then Lars (even though hes a bitch) then Mike Portnoy (I'm sure theres better players than Mike, but I based this on how he writes/records and views his own playing).
This of course is my own opinion. Flame away.............

The first video rules. I love a drummer that can blast but still smack the drum. Drummers that only tap get sound replaced in the studio. =(

most modern metal drummers are sound replaced in the studio regardless of how they play. and a lot use drum triggers live now. (live triggered kicks sound awesome in my opinion )
