I'm not about to ask what kind of power I need to play out. I already know 50w will do the job.
I am about to ask whether it's safe to gig with a single FR-equipped guitar and no backup. Same goes for amps.
Well, falks?

I've never had any problems with my axes at gigs, and they're not exactly bulletproof. I also rarely change my strings and they still don't break on me. Just know the physical limitations of your axe I guess, like if you have a dodgy input jack don't step on the lead etc.

I have been gigging every weekend for the past two years and have never had a back up with me. We use 2 guitars, E standard and drop D. I dont want to lug around a 3rd guitar. (May be a different story when we start touring)
like shred fan said. just know what your axe can handle. If you think it is likely to fail at a gig then maybe you should bring a back up.

as far as amps. I gigged with a solid state for years. Ive been using the same Randall for like 6 years (2 years of heavy gigging)...never had problems with it.
If you are using a tube amp it may be a good idea to have a back up. But I dont have a lot of experience with this. I myself just got a tube set up so I have been considering bringing a back up with me in case a tube fails
