Why some people want to buy "road-worn" guitars like fenders? I was browsing through music123.com and saw some fenders "road-worn" in factory ...

no but seriously.. do people really want to have their guitars chipped and all just to make them LOOK GOOD? I mean it looks beautiful polished, with 0 scratches... Here we have paint chipped, cig marks and ocassional burns and stuff... disgusting. Its like driving a wrecked car or something

Its like driving a wrecked car or something yeah and they're paying extra for it too. i mean, if i wanted my guitar to look like that i'd rather pay the 400 for a regular strat and beat the crap out of it myself instead of paying an extra few hundred to get it like that...it's so much cheaper to take the body off the neck and throw it around, drag it behind your car, etc. than to pay fender to beat it up for you.

I actually like worn in looking guitars, but not from the factory. All scars should be from battle, or you should at least have a badass story to tell about each of your paint chips/cigarette burns. The matte black finish on my SLSMG is becoming shiny in one spot, let this be a lesson to all: do not eat soup whilst playing guitar. In all seriousness, worn guitars tend to look badass and full of character. Factory made worn guitars tend to flood the market with badass looking worn guitars, making them look like plain old normal guitars. There will come a time when the only guitars you can buy are full of paint chips, stitches and bullet holes: and at that point in time, guitars with great finishes will become awesomely badass.

Relicing is about the most retarded thing I can imagine. Why intentionally destroy the finish of a perfectly good guitar?
The only time I see it as acceptable is when that instrument has paid its dues in the clubs and earned every nick and scratch.
Just my 2 cents.

Stuff like the Amfisound arctic kelo finish and those antique/rust finish steel body guitars are cool IMO, but I agree about wear and tear simulation.
I have a Washburn, and I can tell a story for every major chip/dent/scratch. This ones from the first time I played with a band, that ones from the strap coming off at a gig, dropping the guitar on the cymbal stand, this gouge is from the tool slipping off the trem spring, this ones from the fucking bassist....
The worst part is, most of the guitars have the same wear and tear, like each one had the same accidents/wear from the same guitarist, who put his cigs on the same tuning peg, etc.
The EVH signature series is the ugliest example I can think of. Wires sticking out, scratched to hell, burnt to hell, degaussed/half destroyed pickups, nails/screws in weird places, rusty/worn trem setup, etc, etc, etc.
Funny thing is, it's still not an exact copy, because EVH wrote "This is the Shit"(or something similar) in permanent marker on the back of his original after the series came out so he wouldn't mix them up.

It is ok having a relic'ed guitar if you did the relicing yourself (or with help of others), not the factory.

Same reason someone would buy a pair of jeans that already have holes in them or are acid-washed or whatever. it's all about personal taste. personally, i like nice new finishes. if it earns some scratches and buffs over the years, then so be it.
