I just got a Bronze pick. I was sick of wearing out plastic picks so fast so I thought I would try this. Anyone else use metal picks? I kind of like the metallic tone you get but Im not sure if Im going to make the switch yet. I love the feel of them for sure though....no bending and no wear is awesome

No havent tried those... jazz III reds and blacks all the way for me. Those don't bend either since they are thick and relatively small, but they do wear out in time. I just say fuck that and buy new ones since they are cheap.
How come metal pick being constantly nudged against metal string doesn't wear though? Doesnt it produce fine dust that will then cover up the between pickup zone?

Dmitry, Plastic picks make small dust faster....
I had one or two metal picks.... I didnt like the feel of it, i would almost drop it all the time. I like something encarved in it, some texture. Hell my guitarist glued some sandpaper on a few picks and gave 'em to me so I dont drop 'em no more.
Otherwise for tone that metalic sound is weird, and there was maybe too much attack ?? I Know I would break my (big) strings all the times since I pick harder than the ramones. (that might explain the pick attack when I play.)
but in the end if you like it... do it

They have some metal picks with ridges in them. I think if I used them live I would drop them though....they slip easily.
I dont think there will be any dust produced from the pick. They are supposed to last 10-20 years. There is no wear in the pick at all...and strings seem to be ok as long as you are changing them on a regular basis.
The tone is a bit weird...its not bad, Im just not used to it.
I think for playing heavy music its better to use plastic picks though. The metallic sound may be too much when you use it with heavy distortion.

About 20 years ago, I had the brainstorm (read dumbass) notion that stainless picks would be cool to try out. I was used to fender thins at the time and didnt really give it the time needed to get used to them. They were costing around $2.25 at the time and I was a usual "poor as dirt" musician. ;D
Like Stef, I had a problem dropping them all the time and never really got used to the "chirp" attack they had. The tone as I remember it, running through the rack and a solid state Yamaha G100 combo was decent but nothing to write home about. Cheap gear rocks lmao.
I may pick a couple more up on my next trip to Trashville. Got me currious again. I do love my big stubbys though. Only broke 1 in 3 years.....not bad. I used to slay the thins in a couple days. *shrug

i'm still all about the jazz iii blacks. i pick up a pack of 2.0mm lil' stubbys to change it up ever now and again, but i pick so light, i have yet to have any pick i've ever had wear out...at least as long as i've managed to keep going back to the same one. i lose them so often that if i were to scour my apartment and the band's practice space i'd not have to buy a new pack of them for a good year.

Or you could sell them for almost giveaway price and feed 25903 african children for a year

Same here. I lose them long before I even begin to wear them out. I've got 7 or 8 in my pocket right now that I found while cleaning my jam area. Perfectly good... some like new. I've got a weird green tortex pick that I never use, but it seems to follow me around. Countless picks have been lost, vacuumed up, left behind, etc... but this one's been around as long as I've been playing. I'm gonna put it on a necklace or something next time it turns up. I'm going to try those Ultex J-III's next time I see them. They're supposed to be lighter, but with similar stiffness. I destroyed the metal pick I tried, strangely. Personally, I don't like them. I find them harsh sounding, with lots of horrible pick noise(the attack Stef mentioned), they don't slide off the string as easily, they're expensive, harder on strings, harder on the guitar itself and I'd lose them anyway. I don't know if I'd want extra metal dust/filings around my pickups, either, especially steel or any other magnetic material. The only thing I really like is the pick scrape you can get... that's fucking awesome.
