I cannot get trills faster than, oh, sixteenths at 180 between fingers 1 and 2, and the others don't come even near that. But I can do 3NPS scales legato much faster. What do I need to do to speed up my trills between all fingers? Practice, practice, and more practice aren't helping.

If faster trills you desire, then use your tap finger to accelerate 2x just do it slowly first so it doesnt get messed up.

Same here.. My fretting hand only goes so fast, it can in no way keep up with the picking hand in anything.
Like Torkin said, when the trills just won't go faster, throw in the tapping hand and you'll easily double the speed.

poor guy wants to improve his trills.. not to cheat;p
i'd say practice on huge strings.... helps when you get back on lil ones

Well he said practice doesnt halp...
Okay i have one real good exercise here (learnt it from a chineese kungfu meister).
Take your first finger (you can do this with every finger combination you want but e.g.). Put it against the wall. Use your 2nd finger (e.g.) to hammer on the wall as if u were playing a trill on the fretboard. Do this as fast and hard as possible, and use different finger combinations (take good time to develop your pinky finger, you will have use for it half a world away). By the time the neighbours will start complaining, you know you are good. When you will be able to see your neighbours and their daily life (winky winky) through the hole, you are ready to play guitar.

Btw. I'm currently working on/practicing a new approach to trills... It might be something good and it might be just total waste of time.. I'll let you know if it works or not Just takes so goddamn long time to practice new shit from scratch :/

Thanks, you do that. I've tried a couple different methods, myself, and nothing seems to help. But maybe I don't work on them enough.

You dont have to use your tapping finger, you could alternate the hammer on between two fingers of your left hand (eg. 3, 4). its tricky to get at first but it will almost double the speed without haveing to tap. The reason the 3nps stuff is faster is because if your doing lots of hammer ons or pull offs in a row it creates a kind of momentum and goes by really quick, wheras a trill is constantly alternating between the two so will probably always be a bit slower.

The way is to treat it like working out. It is like adding weight to your bench press. Same thing, different muscles.
