Hello all, Is there anyone that can give me a good description on the floating hand technique employed by the Berklee school as well as the gods like Al Dimeola and Paul Gilbert?
I am trying to break a barrier on the acoustic as well as the electric but I seem to be having difficulty in making this technique stick.
I am pretty decent with alternate picking techniques and I can do the finger style like classical. I just fell in love with the techniques on the acoustic guitar of Al Dimeola.
I could use some great pointers if you are open. Thx, JGH

Ok... picking technique, whole can o' worms here!
With switching to floating your hand... what it takes is time. You lose the stability offered by resting your hand on a fixed point on the guitar pody, so for a fair while you end up playing sloppy as all hell... however that does clear up.
There's no real trick to it... just practice. Remember you're probably very conditioned to not doing it...

Ive always anchored my pinky. I started working on floating my hand about 2 weeks ago as a means to elevate my practicing ( killing boredom with my regular routine). I suck at it. its getting smoother. Im sur Ill master it in time. With anything with this demon instrument... practice is the key.
