Most of mine are also band guitarists. Laiho, Sundin, Hendriksson, that sort of thing. Not always shredders, either. I've been on a serious Iron Maiden kick today. Same here, but the thing i love about Gilbert is that he doesnt take anything seriously, even himself. he's got this real 'if i can do it so can you' attitude that i like.

my inspiration is on youtube.. each time I feel lazy I go there and check ppl playing songs. That gives me a kick, "wow, if I practice I will someday play good". The same about concert vids. As for songwriting, my mood and classical music is the inspiration.

I watch Marty Friedman's "Melodic Control" quite a bit over there.

The solo for "Mark my words"......Ive been anylizing it for the last week (when Ive had time). Its fucking incredible.
Its fast...... melodic and has timing changes without a time sig change.
Im in awe.
