I'm looking for something in 25.5" in the $300-550 range. Preferably no trem, or one that'll hold tune if there is one. 24 frets preferred, but not a must, and frets that aren't worn to the bone -- i.e., a guitar that /feels good/ to play and doesn't sound like utter shit. (This sounds ridiculously broad, but you have no idea how hard it is to find a decent guitar around here!)

I picked up a cheap ass used ESP LTD H-100 strat style For about $200 from Guitar center and it seems to work fine for me . 22 frets and two humbuckers ... Best of all "it stays in tune" . You should be able to find one pretty easy ... Try Ebay . Remember : one mans trash is another mans treasure ...
But then again i'm NOT a shredder

You can shred on any guitar that's got strings. The only difference is ease and how much effort you're willing to put into it.
You can find a ton of great guitars in Musician's Friend. It's a little more costly than a used guitar, but you might find something you like well enough to save up the extra couple hundred, and it's cheaper than a music store. They carry models of most of the best well-known guitars -- Jackson, Ibanez, ESP. The only drawback is not being able to play it before you buy, which isn't that big a deal if you go with something top-quality.

www.music123.com/ESP-LTD-MH-250NT-Electric-Guitar-516687-i1149050.Music123Ive heard that these are very good for the $$, and it looks killer. I own a ESP ltd KH-202, it is of nice quality, sounds well distorted but weak clean. If you don't desire clean sounds, then it's a very nice piece of wood. I don't dig low-priced Jacksons or Ibanez, I have never found a satisfying guitar under 500$

I am currently shredding on a Les Paul knockoff. I'm aware that shredding is possible on anything with strings, but, y'know, that upper bout is obnoxious as hell. (Besides, I've got a horrible case of G.A.S. )

get a LP with high action and huge strings (7 strings set, without the smallest string) soo after you feel confortable with it, every guitar will play like butter ;p

Yea or just learn to shred on a shitty acoustic, then you can shred on any electric.

Bah, my hands are too small and I have shitty joints already anyway, or I'd do just that. On the extra plus side, I could learn Carcass songs if I strung up with 7-strings. (Oh, and I broke the 160BPM barrier again today, I think.) *flex*

Because scale runs in sixteenths at 160 is still slow, that's why! Besides, I'm a bit sloppier than I'd like, which I'm working on. Also, I try to avoid seriously shredding, honestly, because I'm really bad at integrating really fast playing into my improv. It's just good to have more control over the slower stuff and over my rhythm playing.

No, dude, that's not slow. That's pretty fast, and a lot faster than thousands of guitarists will ever be.
But music doesn't need to be super-speedy to be great, so it sounds like you're doing good either way.

Heh, thanks, but... dammit, if I get complacent I'll stop practicing! Tell me I suck, right now.
(Seriously, that's the way it works. I can't believe that I'm good, or I stop caring about getting better.)

Ya know...... This confuses the hell out of me but.........
Just about every Peavey Predator I pick up, they play really fuckin nice for a cheapie. Your probably thinking more along the lines of something better equipped though.
Pawn shops dude! Scour them! You find killer deals if you know what to look for and are brave enough to tell the salesman youll only give "this much" for it.
