So I'm going to audition for this alternative rock band just for fun and experience, and although my moderated metal skills should in theory translate to 1337 Alternative rock guitar skills, i could still use any tips you guys have since this is my first real audition. Should I play shit I've written, stuff i've learned, should I play metal or do some "pentatonic wanking" as it's called?

Prance around and flip your hair. That'll get you the spot.

play the stuff you usualy play/like and what they play...
I mean, if you go and play jazz, it won't fit, nor thrash metal...
good luck also !!

Learn their songs and play that Nothing will turn them off more than some dude totally playing another style. Doesn't matter how good you are. They are looking for the "right fit" for them. Good luck bro!

Good luck bro! ya that's how i got in my band. i had already been hangin out with jake for a little while and asked him to teach me some parts of their songs, and from a combination of my picking up on the songs they'd already had written (they were a trio before i joined) and how well jake and I meshed together as musicians as far a writing goes, i was in. so, basically, just keep being badass and you'll get the gig.

yeah, "hang factor" is probably as important as being able to play.
