Thanks for the group welcome (not to be confused with Group Sex, an album by the Circle Jerks)...
One thing I liked about most of he punk and alternative bands of the eighties, at least they tried to shred. I will always respect any band that does that, even if they're sloppy.

If one can't pick, they should use legato. There is no shame in that.

Well hehe there is no such thing as clean or sloppy. Every lick they play has some sloppiness somewhere there. Sloppiness is only comparative. Yeah it was pretty ironic

Some of Vernon Reid's best stuff is sooooo sloppy and off time that its damn near godly. j/k Even some of the new Metallica stuff you can hear subtle timing fluffs in the solos. I myself am sloppy so Im not complaining.

How are we defining sloppiness? I always figured it included two things: extraneous noise from crossing strings, and bad synchronization between left and right hands. Anything else is just "fuck it, if it sounds good do it."

But, since we can split any time value into smaller time values, no action you do with your right hand will happen at the EXACT same time as the action you do with your left hand, that is, there will always be some sloppiness in there, made by improper synch of two motions.
So where do we put the boundary between sloppy and clean?

You guys have too much time on your hands lmao Sloppiness is when you eat, and you get crap all over your face.

So, cleanliness is when it sounds good, and sloppiness is when it doesn't?

Well a lot of stuff that I play sounds good to my friends guitar newbz and more people without any idea about music and guitar playing.
But I mean if I played something for any of you, you would most likely label me sloppy and tell me that I sound like a massive pile of bovine doodoo.
