So my band and I are going to a studio next monday & tuesday. We're gonna record a funk/disko song that people will dance to.
I've never been in studio before and need all wisdom of this board.
Going for a funky/groovie sound like Extreme (3 sides of every story)
We have this great producer that will mix the thing and wrap that part up for us.
Now drown me in advices!

Use a good high-gain amp. Turn that fucker to 11. Leave the pre-gain on 6 or so.
Then strum your funky chords.

Haha disco is fun music... my country is flooded with bad and sloppy metal-playing fags and lets face it, nobody wants to listen to that shitty crap. People here want dance music So the metal-scene in Iceland is kinda fucked, I'm not getting rich by playing my beloved metal :/ .. except maybe if I move to America.

You don't play metal if you want to make $$$.
If you want to make $, play radio rock, pop, country, or hip hop

THE BEST studio advice I can give is practice your ass off to the metronome.

which is the dossest thing you can do in your freetime. But dude this country is hungering for a decent metal band, not just "mainstream" death or hardcore. There are a couple good metal bands here, so more metal should be made to see if it hooks anybody up. Not to mention shred, there are like 2 good shredders on the whole island. People continue to freak out when they see me playing... and i can't even play a 6 string arpeggio clean at 100 bpms.

Haha so true there are very few good players our age but the guys that are round 30-40 years old now are pretty badass. I haven't met a decent shredder yet.. I love to play all music and my goal is to pull of a hit like The Final Countdown.. I think it's a very hard and good challange to write something everybody will love and I can stilll be proud of writing.

Speaking of age, I'm beginning to think that chops gained through long experience are worth a lot more than "fuck I can play fast" shit. Speed will come with cleanliness and years of experience. And while I'm going to get lynched for this, I've heard/seen a fuckload of guitarists on Youtube with great chops, but absolutely no feel whatsoever (I haven't yet met an electric guitarist with either of those here at Albany, but I digress). And having a unique tone in your fingers and unique style of riff-writing is going to get you a hell of a lot farther, for the most part, than insane Rusty Cooley chops (my hat's off to the man, but not everyone can both sound fucking awesome and have mad skillz like he does).

Yeah agreed.
I know of one good shredder in MH Sindri. He is very good for his age, but all he does is rip Symph X and necrophagist.

That's right. but with Diligent practice the "cleanliness" will come easily and speed after.
