Okkkkey.. Now i must think some
Id have to say that the guy from wintersun has sometimes really nice sounds
I like Suicmez's solo tone on some songs (liek fermented wtf..)
I AM A HUGE FAN of Evergrey's heaaaavy tone on their first two albums. I have yet to figure out if they just did a hundred multitracks or its their setup.
I DONT like Alexi's riff tones on follow the reaper+ . It sounds like rubber. I also don't like when guitarist achieve heaviness on the albums by putting the gain on their hi-gain amps on 11. I like heavy-mid rich tone plus multitracking.
I also dont like the fizzyness that some guitarrists achieve from double rectifiers, although that amp with correct setup and maybe a ts in front of it sounds badass.
And no joke, I really love the tone of a single coil strat through a higher-gain marshall (e.g. YJM) It has a flavour of its own (however non-metal it may be)
My favourite tone comes from a good violin played in a church.

Therion-Sirius B/Lemuria...love the organ on this too. Opeth in general, especially some of the clean stuff. Godly live. Tony Iommi's live tone fucking crushed me when I went to Heaven and Hell. Soooooooo heavy. Nile-Ithyphallic Theres a few more I can't think of right now. Cello in an intimate setting is better than most guitar tone for me though

Pretty much all Testament and Dream Theater, Some Dokken ( I say that cuz' some of it sucked ), Badlands (Jake Wagner is still a god), The break from Wingers Hungry (perfect amount of feedback), Metal Church (crunch and OD *wood*), Savatage (RIP Chris) I could go on forever on this 1. I guess the point is theres so many absolutely killer players that were vicims of shit producers its not even funny.
Cant forget TOOL. Adam may not shred but his tone slays me even though Im not a Gibson fan.
Forgot OPETH. I should be beaten with a $15 POS Chinese classical guitar.

Tony Iommi's live tone fucking crushed me when I went to Heaven and Hell. Soooooooo heavy. off course it did, that kind of cool old-style crunchy guitar sound (wich actually has tone) has way more balls than all this over compressed and sterile sounding shit that many today's bands are using when I saw Van Halen at Staples Center and Eddie played some palm muted riffs on the low E string... that chunky sound he got was by far the ballsiest and heaviest I've ever heard... and I've heard and seen many many bands with ridiculous hi gain amps, low tunings and whatnot... The KING destroyed them all

I forgot to mention these guys:
DISSECTION. Their guitar tone on the last album was incredible, and it was damn good live, too. I'm pretty sure it was just a plain old Gibson LP, and thus... fuck.

I hate Megadeth's rhythm tone. It works, and it mixes down well, but it SOUNDS LIKE A FLY IN A TIN CAN.
