I have recorded several different guitar heads in the studio through the same cab (mesa 4x12) and mic position (audix i5). I tried to get the sounds as close as possible on the heads. This small test is so you can hear the differences in distortion. I put an Ibanez tube screamer pedal in front of the amp on each head. The guitar used was a LTD w/ EMG 81 pick ups. Each file is broken down into 3 volume levels on the head: 1 - 80% volume 2 - 50% volume 3 - 20% volume Notice the differences in tone as the speaker compresses at loud volumes and the how tubes act when pushed (if the head has them). As I get more heads in the studio, I will record more clips and post them. 1) Peavey 5150 - Ld Channel www.insaneguitar.com/amptest1.mp32) Mesa Dual Rectifier - Red Channel www.insaneguitar.com/amptest2.mp33) Peavey XXL - Lead Channel (High Gain voicing) www.insaneguitar.com/amptest3.mp34) Peavey Valve King - Lead Channel www.insaneguitar.com/amptest4.mp35) Krank REV 1 www.insaneguitar.com/amptest5.mp36) Peavey JSX - Ultra Channel www.insaneguitar.com/amptest6.mp3Enjoy!

80% on the 5150 is currently closest to my heart, followed by the 50% Recto. Great stuff, Joel. Thanks a lot.

I added our 1st solid state amp today, a peavey xxl head. Enjoy. I must say I'm pretty impressed with it compared to the tube stuff.

Nicenice. Joel, I was thinking if you could do some lead notes on the mesa with ts in front (and maybe with 5150 as well). Just want to hear how it should sound raw.
